Spring 2010 Club: Knitting & Crochet
I have decided to change clubs for the spring semester. Many of our students are crafty and into art so the new club will be 30 minutes a day of knitting or crochet. Students who already know how to do these activities can spend a bit of each day creating. Students who do not know how to knit or crochet can learn how to join in on a craft that has been around for over 200 years. This will be a self paced class. The students will be using a really great website called Knitting Help. The site contains free close up videos which can be paused, forward and backed so that each can learn at their own speed. Those that already know how to knit can find new techinques. The site also contains free patterns. Each student will be supplied with knitting needles and yarn (or they can bring in their own).
My grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was 7 years old and was crocheting up until a few years ago (about 5 or so) when I finally decided that I NEEDED to learn how to knit. I found the Knitting Help website and used the videos to learn. I knit everything from scarves, socks and intricate lace. I have to say my favorite is creating socks to give away. There is nothing like being able to make something for someone else!
